Padayatra América

March 27 ´04

Krsna Kripa prabhu left after 2 days of visiting us. We have been moving smooth, seems as though we have never left the roads. Yesterday we found that the stove is broken, and we cannot cook. Anyway this is padayatra- here we are in the middle of nowhere on route 27 without a stove. Only the Lord can make some arrangement!

Sure enough, the next day Mother Jahnavi came to visit us - as she happens to have a camping stove that they are not using. She and her husband Vaikuntha prabhu and their son came back that night and spent the night with us at a farm where we were invited. We had a nice kirtana at night and in the morning, purifying the atmosphere at the place of Mr. Jim and his wife who so nicely hosted us.

Today we move from Branford 14 miles.

The Deities look happy with sun temp.80 and a pleasant breeze ... we are looking forward who is next?

March 29

At night the temp reaches 35; Viththalesvar prabhu is now dressing the Deites, doing pujari service and the services are now becoming more naturally distributed.

We are crossing sandy wetlands close to the coast of Florida on the Gulf of Mexico. As we come closer to Alabama/Georgia crossroads, we frequently see a particular flag that represents a certain community sometimes termed “redneck”. It is the confederate flag before the USA become one nation. What is that? was my question...

This flag has a history that goes back to the 19th century at a time when a new generation had come after the fighting between the French, English and American Indians had settled. Then the next generation of European descendents (not knowing how to develope the land) required a working class of people and therefore brought “slaves” from Africa and with the hard work of the African people start to develope the country. During this time many immigrants from Europe come to America with the desire to have peaceful and prosperous life. Meanwhile- American Indians (still somewhat disgruntled); a new generation of white settlers; new immigrants and slaves were trying to live together harmoniously-but unless there is Krsna consciousness, or a community with God in the center - that will not be possible.

“yas tu sarvani bhutany atmany evanupasyati....” He who sees everything in relation to the Supreme Lord, who sees all entities as His parts and parcels in quality one with the Lord; and who sees the Supreme Lord within everything, never hates anything or any being and becomes a true knower of things . (Sri Isopanisad verses 6,7)

The situation was chaotic, immigrants, slaves, resentful Indians, and second generation white settlers and then President Lincoln began to fight for the rights of the black people. Suddenly the southeastern states give freedom to the African race and as a natural result thousands flock to the southern states creating another wave of rebellion and fighting. What we see in these days is a shadow of a natural developement through generations of resentment and oppression, in which the lack of Krsna consciousness is predominant. In the past they would freely kill thousands of immigrants and blacks (anyone considered an “outsider”) In the new generation the culture lingers in a more subtle form. However simple or humble the people are, there are always good people and bad people. In the history of the Radha-Damodara traveling party there are stories of hostility in these areas-once the party was warned by police to move on “you are not welcome here!blquote ; also by some locals that “you were lucky, these guys can do anything. Better not stay in the area”. Just before our departure from Pennsylvania, His Holiness Candramauli Swami remarked “oh, you are going south? (Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana) that´s dangerous, devotees have been harrassed in those places. Not wanting to scare you, try to move along. Don´t stay too long in one place”

Behind everything is the will of the Lord. Oh, my Lord Ugra Nrsimha this is Your mission - go where You want. Please, my only desire is to have the proper consciousness to live Your will.

March 30

Still cold at night 35-40, during the day is warm.
We walk 10 miles on route 27, on one side of the highway i put the horses in the shadow of a lot of tall pine trees and leave the wagon on the roadside. Few minutes later a police gentleman come to say that the owner called and want us to move immediately.

I explain the situation and ask if i can talk with the owner...he look at me wanting to help. “no,you better not talk with him- he´s a bad person” He sincerely said believe me you don´t want to deal with him. So, i move the horses out of the timber onto the roadside with the wagon. *F-10

Meanwhile candrabhaga was cooking in the shadow of the timber with a some devotees visiting from Alachua; and Viththalesvar prabhu was in his world reading Bhagavad-gita. Suddenly 300 feet from the wagon a black truck with a gigantic confederate flag stop and park on the grass. After 10 minutes, another black truck appeared crossing the highway to the roadside where the other truck was- both facing us- somewhat threatening. This scene went on for ten minutes- nobody came down from the truck. I glance at the machete we carry for cutting grass. At that moment i simply took shelter of Jwala Nrsimha seeing Him as the best weapon, protector and exclaim loudly the holy name. And

quote:

saksat svakale sampraptan mrtyum satruganam api
bhaktanam nasayaid yastu mrtyu-mrtyum namamyaham

i bow down to the Lord who is the death of death personified. He is the destroyer of death and the hordes of enemies by appearing at the right time when His devotees are attacked.
at that moment both trucks left. The holy name is powerful and Lord Nrsimhadeva is here to help us to continue broadcasting it!!

Jwala Nrsimha ki jaya!
the preaching is going on...
